We had a pretty good turnout for our SC Ready Parent Meeting. Parents heard information from Ms. White as she welcomed them and shared the purpose of the meeting. We know that students are more than a test number or score. The tests help us to find the best approach to teaching students on their levels.
Superintendent Dr. Hembree spoke to parents about how she believes the staff has prepared the students, and she knows the students can do well. Mrs. Turman, Chief Academic Officer for MCSD also spoke to parents on the importance of the test and Parent Involvement. We are fortunate to have District Office Leaders who are present, visibly involved daily, and who participated in this meeting.
Mrs. Sanders, our school testing coordinator, explained the logistics of the testing day and some important tips for parents in preparing students. Students need a good night's sleep and a nutritious breakfast. They also need to be at school on time. If students arrive late, they will have to take the test in a makeup session. Typically, students who take a make-up test, do not perform as well in that setting.
Mrs. Lewis, MCSD teacher of the year, talked to parents from a parent's perspective. She said, "Children's importance is what is important to their parents." She encouraged parents to keep motivating students.
Mrs. Witteborg, MES Interventionist, told parents of the importance of positive affirmations. She even had them sing along to the "Affirmations" song by Snoop Dog. Assistant Principal Mrs. McTeer, closed the evening with more positive words about believing in the students.
SCReady test determines our state school report card rating based on student achievement shown on these tests. MES has come from an "unsatisfactory rating just 3 years ago to a below-average rating 2 years ago, to an average rating currently. We will not stop improving! We will prove to the state MES has the best students, staff, and parents!
Thank you parents for coming out and supporting your child's education. We hope you enjoyed the door prizes!
