Today we celebrate two incredible leaders, Principal, Dr. Hopkins (Happy Birthday as well) and Assistant Principal, Mr. Oswald, who inspires, supports, and guides with dedication and heart every single day. Your commitment to our school community does not go unnoticed, and we are so grateful for all that you do.
Wishing you both a day filled with joy, appreciation, and well-deserved celebration!

Good afternoon! This is Dr. Hopkins, Principal of McCormick Middle School. Tomorrow our 6th grade students will begin SC READY testing in Science. All of our students will take SC READY Math on the 13th, Writing on the 14th, and Reading on the 20th and 21st.
Our students and staff have worked very hard this year to prepare for these important tests. Our Winter and Spring MAP scores indicated high student growth for our school in ELA and Math. We are expecting similar results on our SC READY Assessments.
We need your help! Please make sure that our students get to bed early and are well rested and focused on these days. We have spread these assessments out over 3 weeks to help our students give their best performance.
Thank you for your support this year! We love our kids and are very proud of them. Please check out our MMS website and Facebook page to keep up with our upcoming events to close out the school year.

Mrs. Pohlman from Clemson Extension came to MMS and the students took their solar ovens that they built before the break outside to set them up to cook s'mores. While the s'mores are baking/melting, they went back inside to learn about plant and animal cells. A 3-D printer was used to create the cells that the students are coloring to identify the parts of both an animal and plant cell.
Middle school science is rocking their hands on lab experiments!

The dress code permits jeans without holes, tears, or rips. However, leggings, jeggings, sweatpants, joggers, hoodies, crocs, slides, and similar items are not allowed.
Also, we are selling #Team Tatum bracelets at a cost of $2/bracelet. Students can purchase them during their lunch time. Let us unite in support of Tatum and demonstrate that she is not facing this challenge alone. We appreciate your generosity and participation.

**Title: Cooking Up Science: Clemson Extension's Solar Oven Workshop with Middle School Students**
This week, the Clemson Extension team had the exciting opportunity to engage with our local middle school students in a hands-on workshop focused on solar energy. Together, we embarked on a journey to build solar ovens, blending science, creativity, and a dash of culinary fun!
With guidance from our knowledgeable Clemson Extension educator, Jaime Pohlman, the students transformed simple cardboard boxes, aluminum foil, and plastic wrap into innovative solar ovens.
The workshop not only provided a fun and interactive way to learn about renewable energy but also fostered teamwork and problem-solving skills among the students.
Stay tuned for more workshops and initiatives as we continue to explore the wonders of science together!
