Superintendent's Bio

Dr. Hembree has worked in education since 2002. She was named “Superintendent Elect'' of McCormick County School District in March of 2020, and took over as the full-time superintendent in July of 2020.  Prior to Dr. Hembree taking over the helm of McCormick County School District, she served in Lexington School District Three, initially as an elementary school principal, and then as the Director of Special Services.  


Dr. Hembree has also served in a variety of other roles in South Carolina and North Carolina, including assistant principal, instructional coach, and teacher. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education at Marshall University in West Virginia, and both her Masters and Doctorate of Education degrees at Gardner Webb University in North Carolina. Dr. Hembree comes from a family of educators and has always been passionate about making a difference in the lives of children. Dr. Hembree is committed to maintaining a focus on providing rigorous, innovative instruction to ensure that the students of McCormick County School District receive a world class education.  


Dr. Hembree and her husband Mike reside in McCormick County, and are the proud parents of Ryan Hembree, who currently is an oceanographer contracted by the department of naval intelligence.   In her spare time, she enjoys exercising, traveling, studying weather and playing with her two new fur babies, Sammie and Sahara.
