On Tuesday, January 7, 2025, PowerSchool notified our district about a cybersecurity incident involving unauthorized access to specific customer data within the PowerSchool Student Information System (SIS). Unfortunately, it has been confirmed that some of this information belongs to families and educators in the McCormick County School District.
This incident is part of a widespread international cybersecurity breach affecting a significant portion of PowerSchool's customer base. PowerSchool has taken full responsibility for the violation, making it clear that our district is not at fault. The company has assured its customers that the unauthorized access has been contained, and the compromised credentials have been deactivated.
An investigation is currently underway to determine the scope of the breach and to identify the specific information accessed for each affected customer. Our district will continue to work closely with PowerSchool and the South Carolina Department of Education to address the situation.
Once further details are available, PowerSchool will directly contact those impacted. We will continue to provide updates as new information emerges. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
